At the end of the nineteenth century advances in chemistry led to new organic pigments made in high-tech laboratories from materials which have central atoms of carbon. These colors are characterized by their greater transparency and intensities. Color went beyond nature. These technologies gave painters more colors and expanded the creative possibilities.
My MODERN DYE PALETTE is inspired by the modern paint palettes used by contemporary artists like Mark Rothko, Hans Hofmann, and Georgia O’Keeffe, which featured magenta red, hansa yellow, and turquoise blue. As you scroll down to the bottom of this page, all of the extraordinary colors pictured are made from various combinations of three dyes that I created to reproduce their color palette: MAGENTA RED, HANSA YELLOW, and TURQUOISE BLUE dyes.
These three MODERN PALETTE DYES are available in my online shop. The recipes for each color are printed on the MODERN PALETTE RECIPE CARDS also available in my online shop.

for the MODERN palette
My Dye Smart™ system can be visualized simply by finding a color on the SMART DYE CHART that you want to dye. Trace the vertical column to the top and the horizontal row to the left and note the two numbers. These numbers refer to the numbers printed on 12 recipe cards available at my online shop. Simply measure the dyes listed on both recipe cards into a liquid cup measure. Dissolve in 1 cup of boiling water. And voila! You have created a cup of dye solution in the color you selected. Use it to dye a yard of wool in whatever technique you choose.

The samples below were photographed in natural light, so the dyed fiber may appear darker in an indoor setting than the photo sample.
Colors may vary.
The photographs of the colors are a representation of the actual dye. Colors also may vary due to your computer settings and dyeing method and procedures. I recommend dyeing a sample of the color before beginning a project that requires an exact color match.
